How To Practice Vipassana Meditation

There are many ways to meditate, but learning how to practice Vipassana Meditation will help you get the most out of your efforts. It is a very powerful method for meditation, one that can help you achieve a state of inner peace and awareness. You may be wondering how to do Vipassana since it's different from traditional forms of meditation. How can you learn to meditate like a monk? Keep reading.

When you learn how to practice Vipassana, you will begin to notice a shift in your consciousness. When traditional meditation uses a large amount of concentration and focus, Vipassana meditation uses pure awareness of your breathing and thoughts. You are mindful of your breathing and what you're thinking, but you aren't focusing on the thoughts. Vipassana also requires deep breathing exercises, which will help you develop an awareness of your body and a deeper understanding of your body and your breathing.  


During your Vipassana exercise, you will observe your breath going in and going out, from your diaphragm to your abdomen and back again. You will find that you are much more relaxed during this time. Try to observe your breath going in and going out of your abdomen. Your breathing should feel steady and deep, similar to deep breathing meditation.

When you practice Vipassana, try looking at your hands, arms, legs, feet, and everything else outside of yourself. When you start getting used to this kind of meditation technique, you will become increasingly aware of how your entire body feels. Another aspect of Vipassana is learning how to meditate while you are not in a stressful situation. You don't have to meditate facing an angry crowd or being run over by a car. It is very easy to learn how to meditate with the environment you are in, and there is no right way to do it. Simply start with a mental note of how you feel, then put your breathing into it and relax. Putting feelings into your meditation is important because it helps you to connect your body and mind during a time of peacefulness.

Some people who are brand new to meditation use a mantra to help them quiet their thoughts. This can be effective, but if your goal is to have an insight into your mind and learn how to control your thoughts you will want to use a different approach. Instead of using a mantra, choose a sound, visualize it in your mind and listen to it. You can also practice Vipassana by focusing solely on your breathing. This is called a mindfulness exercise and it will allow you to experience the physical sensations that you are feeling through the exercises of Vipassana.
